While mapping Milan Design Week 2026, certain projects start to stand out. Not everything that is announced feels relevant, but some concepts immediately catch attention.
The temporary hotel installation by Tom Dixon is one of them. It has been added to my must-see list.
During Milan Design Week 2026, he presents Mua Mua, a twelve-room micro hotel located at Mulino Estate, Via Aosta 2. What makes this project interesting is that the new AW26 collection is not shown as separate objects, but integrated directly into the spaces. From bedrooms to lounges.
You are not moving through an exhibition, but through a functioning environment. A setting where you see how design behaves in use.
This reflects a shift that appears more often. The presentation of design is moving away from isolated objects towards complete environments.
It also suggests something beyond a temporary installation. The project seems designed to continue as a place after the fair.
This is the kind of project I include in my route, simply to see how it works in practice.
