Important news! TH and JS go separate ways...

TH and JS go separate ways...

Everything comes to an end… After many years of publishing THJS Cover together; a trend book with which we have inspired many companies, we have decided to stop this in its current form.

We have always put together the trend books for you with great love and pleasure. We would like to thank you very much for the trust you have placed in us, in our advice and our trend forecasts.

From here on, we will each go our separate ways. We would like to tell you what we are going to do:

My heart is with interior.

As a student I had a part-time job in a flower shop for five years. And after studying 'Drawing & Graphic design’ I got a job at a trend agency, as a designer and trend watcher in the interior industry. In 1997 I started making trend books there, I traveled abroad to factories to do product development, I drew new designs for interior items and I did styling for photography and booths. In 2005 I partly continued this work in our joint venture THJS. I enjoyed my collaboration with Joke: All the wonderful trend journeys we've made together, the assignments we have done for clients, the lectures we have given in New York, Shanghai and many other places, and above all a wonderful friendship.

When we were allowed to travel again to the Super Salone in Milan September 2021, after a year and a half spent in lockdown, I also noticed how I had missed that. It was wonderful to see all the new beautiful designs and interiors again; walking around with my camera and capturing that. It is wonderful to see new designs for a more sustainable world!

At the same time, I realized that I often thought: 'how nice to be able to invent and design new products…’ During the lockdown there was time again for my own creative process: I did a lot of photographing, I wrote a poem every now and then, I started with screen printing. And meanwhile I started with an assignment to design products for home and living. Just like before. I love it!

And Miss Antenna!

Years ago I started with the instagram account '@missantenna'. I started sharing my photos, taken during travels and vacations. The antenna refers to foreign countries; in the Netherlands we hardly see them anymore, the amount of antennas on the rooftops. Antennas are receivers and transmitters. The word suits me. All the more so because antennas are also the sense organs of insects. They contain senses of many kinds: smell, taste, touch or hearing.

Recently I expanded this instagram account. I started with the website: 'missantenna.com'. In the future I hope to sell some beautiful products here. My first products are online already: 'Verzin' is a (Dutch) book with poems, written by Monique Huisman and photos and graphic design by me. To match these I have added a number of posters. Soon the shop will be supplemented with cards and related (interior) products.

But what about THJS?

THJS (Cover) will not return in its current form. Publishing two trend books a year, as we did before the pandemic, means a job for two people with seven months of full-time commitment. A simple calculation quickly shows that it is not feasible for me alone to stop fourteen months of 'trend watching' in one year.

In the coming period I will consider…. in what new form can I inspire you? If there's anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask! I look forward to new opportunities and possibilities...

For twenty-two years I enjoyed being a trend watcher. And then something changed...

All these years I've had a lot of fun catching the zeitgeist. To put together the puzzle of everything that happened in the world and to translate that into colors, materials and designs for new products. But lately I've been getting more and more mixed feelings. I think that we (or I, let me speak only for myself) are not working in a good way. I run and fly and rush through life. I do a little bit of everything. Quick, and rushed, because there is still so much more to do… While running I quickly catch up on the latest trend, because I “have to” stay up-to-date. Know what's hip. Trendy.

But sometimes I forget what really suits me. Which makes me REALLY happy. I've been thinking a lot about that lately. And more and more I come to the conclusion that I actually become much happier with other things than with new, hip stuff.

I am happy when I am able to...

- eat good food
- cycle on my bike
- do some gardening
- pick from the garden or in the forest
- make something delicious with it
- make photographs
- combine colors or flavors

I am happy in a group of people, where we have a nice chat about a hobby, or about something that keeps us busy. This can be about work, hobbies, children, music, sports, nature, photography, cooking, second-hand finds and a thousand other things. My interests are very broad. The nice thing is; that there are always similarities. It's always about enjoying. About pure. About nature. About healthy. About living a nice life. About REAL seeing, not just passing by, but taking the time to enjoy on something.

About cherishing what is there.

What do I actually want? I want to inspire. I want to take people with me and give them ideas on how to enjoy life more. Sport with pleasure. Eating deliciously. Watching things grow in your own garden. Become aware of what there is to see. Whether that is a pigeon in your own backyard or a special eagle species in the Eifel. to marvel. About smell, taste, color, feeling, sound…

Living with your senses on position 10.

To experience. The course of the seasons. A butterfly in the garden… Hearing the crackling of a pebble path. The rustle in the leaves: what's going on there? The chirping of a bird. Learning to listen. Becoming aware of your surroundings. There is so much to experience, even in your own garden!

Watching with your eyes wide open.

Listening with your eyes closed.

Cooking and tasting with you all the taste buds you have.

That's why I turned things around. I hope to inspire you and show you what is possible - also in your garden! So that you too can garden and enjoy, dreaming of the harvest. And then: pick and taste, use, eat or save for later. My new company is called voedselborder... Where you can learn to create your own edible, ornamental garden.

To experience. To enjoy. Pure and honest. I want that. You too?
