20 Years of Interior Trend Forecasting
by Titia Huisman
Since 2006, Titia Huisman has been working on trend books, initially in collaboration with Joke Scholtalbers. Together they developed The Cook Book, which later continued under the name THJS Cover, based on their combined initials. These publications were used internationally and formed the foundation of her work in trend forecasting.
Since 2020, this work has continued independently under the name TH (ATHOME). What began as a shared vision has evolved into a distinct and internationally used tool for designers, retailers and brands.
The roots of this practice go back further. In 1997, she joined a trend agency, where she was involved in developing and structuring trend books. It was here that a deeper understanding emerged of colour, material, form, composition and their interplay as guiding elements for collections.
Her work is grounded in continuous research into cultural, social and economic developments. Rather than relying on data or algorithms, it is shaped through ongoing observation, intuition and a close reading of shifts in design, behaviour and society. Unlike many trend agencies, the work does not originate from analysis alone, but from a trained eye and an accumulated visual memory built over decades. The resulting themes are not isolated trends, but considered and layered directions that translate complexity into clarity.
Together, these years form a continuous process of observing, collecting and translating. A way of working that has evolved over nearly three decades into a clear and distinctive signature.
A 20-year overview of trend development will be shared here.
